An orientation for newcomers

If you have five minutes, this page is the door. It explains what the Eastern Orthodox Church claims to be, how this site makes its case, and the four paths through the rest of it.

01What this site is

This is an educational guide to the Eastern Orthodox Church — its history, its theology, and the case that it is the original Church of Christ, preserved unbroken. It is written for newcomers and inquirers: no prior background is assumed, and nothing is asked of you but your attention.

02The claim, in one breath

Orthodoxy claims something specific and testable: that the Church founded by Christ and the Apostles still exists, holding the same faith, worship, and ministry it received — “the faith once for all delivered to the saints.” Where other Christian bodies trace their beginning to a later moment — a break, a reform, a founder — the Orthodox Church claims simple continuity with the first.

You do not have to accept that claim to explore it. This site lays out the history and the reasoning so you can weigh it for yourself.

03How we argue

Two commitments shape everything here. First, every factual claim is sourced — to Scripture, the Councils, or the Fathers — so you can check it. Second, those who disagree are represented accurately and charitably before they are answered; we never argue against a caricature. Where Orthodox Christians themselves disagree — as over contested questions of autocephaly — we describe the dispute rather than take sides.
