The Theotokos, Saints, and Prayer
Orthodoxy venerates Mary and the saints without worshiping them, because the Church is one Body in Christ across death.
Rival Claim
The Protestant claim
Prayers to Mary and the saints distract from Christ, lack biblical warrant, and violate His unique mediation.
01
One communion in the one Mediator
Orthodoxy worships the Holy Trinity alone. Asking the saints to pray is not adding another savior; it is asking living members of Christ's Body to intercede in the one communion of the Church.
Mary is honored because she is the Theotokos, the Mother of God according to the flesh, and because Scripture itself calls her blessed. The saints are not dead competitors with Christ. They are witnesses to His victory, alive to God, and joined to the Church's prayer.
